Josh

Birth and Babyhood

In 1984, Josh was born at home in our 1800s log cabin in the country out of Mount Vernon. When he was six weeks old, I measured him and discovered that he had grown an inch a week. I became concerned and researched gigantism but found that he did not have the other symptoms of it. He was just getting a good start toward his eventual height of 6’6” tall.

Preschool Age

When he became a toddler, I noticed a strong mechanical interest. He would tear apart a toy and study it in great detail. He couldn’t figure out how to put it back together, however. As a preschooler, we let him have real pieces of equipment such as an old typewriter, an adding machine, or calculator and a screwdriver to tear it apart.

Highschool Age

Then during his high-school years, we had him work on a small engine repair course for one of his home school electives. He didn’t tell us until after the fact that he’d taken an engine up to his bedroom and completely dismantled it. It remained on his desk for several years, and he would move parts around, examine, and clean them.

First Job

He finished off his high-school career at a JVS doing a diesel mechanics program. Then he worked for a landscape supply company repairing a wide variety of mechanical equipment including some custom pieces. Now he enjoys working at a carpentry shop with one of his brothers.

Health Advisor Activities

On the side, Josh has studied in-depth about natural health remedies. He seems to have an endless supply of preparations. We often seek his advice for health-related problems and have been saved a number of trips to expensive medical practitioners.

Compassionate Bent

Most importantly, Josh is blessedly gifted with a compassionate nature. This showed up first at the age of five when I was birthing Elisha. My mother-in-law tried to keep all the kids out in the dining-room, but Josh slipped away from her. I was sitting in a recliner in the living-room having hard labor contractions. He came over and held my hand through each contraction. After several of them, he said, “Mommy, do you want me to sit in the chair with you?”

When he became an adult, he made a habit of visiting and staying for lengthy periods of time with any relatives that had a serious health issue or were hospitalized. He reached out to offer assistance in any way he could. He still will yet today.

Ministry Interest

Josh wants to focus on ministry to people and volunteer work. To accomplish this he would like to run his own business organized in such a way that would allow him the flexibility and money for outreach work. He has learned many of the elements that it takes to accomplish this goal. I pray that the rest of the pieces come together for him.
